Every year, millions of Americans visit their local car dealerships to purchase new automobiles. Consumers today have the widest range of possible vehicles and manufacturers available that has ever been possible. From compact cars to the heaviest pickup trucks, auto manufacturers today are more often than not putting out vehicles into every category of cars and trucks on the market today. But, with the wide variety of vehicles and manufacturers on the market today, people often wonder who the top auto manufacturers in the United States are. Following is a list of the top manufacturers by sales volume in the country in January of 2018 according to the Wall Street Journal, making them top dogs in the US automotive industry.

General Motors – headquartered in Detroit, Michigan and encompassing the ever-popular brands of Chevrolet, GMC, Buick and Cadillac, the General Motors (GM) family is the perennial top seller in the United States year after year. The vehicles from the GM lineup that are top sellers in the United States on an annual basis are the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, the Chevrolet Equinox sport utility vehicle and the GMC Sierra pickup truck. The monstrous manufacturer offers vehicles to consumers of all price ranges from entry level sedans to the luxurious Cadillac and Buick lineups. Toyota – based out of Japan but having production plants in six locations in the United States, the Toyota brand of vehicles have been climbing in popularity in the United States due to their reliability and dependability. The Toyota vehicles that are the top sellers in the United States are the Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle, the Toyota Camry sedan, the Toyota Corolla compact sedan and the Toyota Highlander large sport utility vehicle. Toyota has accumulated an impressive array of awards, including the most 2017 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Awards, the most 2017 Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards and the most 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus winners.

Ford – based out of Detroit, Michigan, the Ford Motor Company is one of the most iconic vehicle manufacturers in the country. In the United States, Ford sells the brands of Ford and Lincoln and their top selling vehicles in the country are the Ford F-Series of pickup trucks, the Ford Escape small sport utility vehicle, the Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle and the Ford Fusion sedan. Chrysler – based out of Auburn Hills, Michigan in the United State, the Chrysler brand operates the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram lineup of vehicles in the country. Chrysler operates on an international level as part of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles organization. The company includes the Mopar brand of automotive stuff including parts and accessories. They also operate the SRT performance auto division. The top-selling Chrysler vehicles in the United States are the RAM series of pickup trucks, the Dodge Grand Caravan minivan and the Jeep Wrangler, America’s iconic off-road SUV.
